Unless otherwise specified, all audio files are in .MP3 format

Unfortunately it's been ages since I've updated this page with anything new. Most of this stuff is a couple years old, I'm afraid. Until I figure out what else to do with this page, though, it'll remain as-is. You've been warned...

Character Voices

Character Voice Demo - 1.07 MB, 2:21 (2001)
This demo is meant to show variety and versatility, rather than provide an exhaustive sampling of possible voices. All voices in the demo were performed by me. While audio equalization was implemented to achieve certain effects in the demo, all voices were created naturally.

Commercially, I have provided voice work for Her Interactive as French ski instructor Jacques Brunais in Treasure in the Royal Tower, and for my former employer, Big Idea Productions, in several different projects.

Audio for Animation

Indecision - 815 KB, 1:44 (2000)

Liverdance - 235 KB, 0:30 (1998)
Background music sampled & remixed from Plok video game. Opening piano chord from original Riverdance production. Voice-over and mixing by me.
Attitube - 486 KB, 1:00 (1999?)
Voices, music, and mixing by me.

Voice-Mail

It's no fun greeting callers with a plain ol' voice-mail message, so I create new outgoing messages from time to time. Here are some favorites (newest first):

Word Jumble - 171 KB, 0:21
My wife and I got the idea to make an outgoing message using words spoken by both of us, but out of order/context. The original version was longer, but for various reasons, I decided to trim out some excess parts.
VeggieTales 3 - 242 KB, 0:30
I was married at the end of 2001, and thankfully my wife, Genie, is willing to join the fun in these voicemail messages. It took a while to come up with a concept that would work for the two of us, but it was worth the wait.
Penguins 2 - 277 KB, 0:35
This was my last outgoing message before I got married, and represents take two with the Penguins. Better interaction and concept than the first version, but also kinda long. It's tough coming up with short concepts for this stuff.
Penguins 1 - 213 KB, 0:27
This was my first take using 3-2-1 Penguins! voice clips. It didn't feel very smooth, though, and I didn't like the attitude that I resented the other characters' involvement, so this also didn't last more than a day or two before I wrote and edited a new version
VeggieTales 2 - 276 KB, 0:35
Also created in Seattle. I used this one for a long time, replacing it with a Penguin version after I'd been in Chicago for a couple months. Some folks complained about its length, and I can see why. As fun as I tried to make it, it is kinda tedious to wait for it to finish before leaving a message.
VeggieTales 1 - 116 KB, 0:14
I actually made this in Seattle, before getting my job at Big Idea. The Veggie character clips were taken from various videos and CDs. This one didn't last more than a couple days on my voice-mail, though, because I came up with a better, more seamless concept...
Phone Snippets - 64 KB, 0:08
An outgoing message composed of pieces from incoming messages. I got the idea after reading (and hearing) about a similar project done by someone else.
Assorted Snippets - 56 KB, 0:07
One of my earliest versions using voice samples from various sources. Short and simple.

Original Music

Dancing Mountain River (excerpt) 1:18 607 KB .MP3
This is where it all began, back around 1990! :-) While my first compositions were percussion-based modules made on an Amiga using OctaMED, Dancing Mountain River was my first truly musical work. OctaMED was also used in its production, thanks to its MIDI capabilities, and controlled a Korg M1 keyboard I'd purchased shortly after graduating from high school. OctaMED didn't use a true MIDI file format, though, so I decided to post a representative chunk from my original cassette recording. The song is roughly new-age in style, and not too sophisticated, but there are some nice elements to it.

Movin' 0:30 4 KB .MID
Created for use as background music in commercials, this is my shortest and simplest piece. It was also sequenced using OctaMED and a Korg M1. After purchasing the sequencer software for my PC, I decided to re-create this piece while learning my way around the program.

Another Way 3:34 49 KB .MID
I began this tune in 1994 as a music module on my Amiga. I didn't get very far with it in that format, though, and it would probably still be untouched if it weren't for a good friend whose encouragement prompted me to try recreating the tune as a MIDI file. I wasn't sure how well it would work, but it didn't take long to discover that it would work even better than before. The song's title also plays an interesting part in the story. It was developed during the early module stages because the song represented a different style of composition for me. However, it's even more appropriate now considering the switch from .XM to MIDI format...it's literally been done another way!

Awards for Another Way:

  • 5th place overall: MIDI Music Demo Contest, May 1999
  • 1st place, Jazz category: TOS MIDI Contest, July 1999

Synergy (demo) 1:46 18 KB .MID
Synergy is a combination of two themes which were developed completely independently of one another, but which share the same base chord structure. The one you hear in this sampling is very structured and upbeat. The second theme, which will be represented by a saxophone, will appear shortly after the first, and is more free-form and melancholy. The two themes blend in the song's conclusion, demonstrating the concept indicated by the title.

Clear and Present (demo) 1:07 15 KB .MID
Clear and Present is the working title of a tune in which I'm attempting to capture elements of danger and suspense. Pieces of this tune were included as background elements in my animation demo reel, so I figured a more detailed "teaser" was in order.

All MIDI files optimized for playback through Creative Labs' AWE64 sound card.

MIDI Tutorials

Several years ago I began putting together some tutorials related to MIDI music composition. I only ended up finishing one, but it still appears to get regular hits from some music sites, so I've resurrected the info and updated the pages to match the rest of the site.
